SouthWest Water Conservation (SWWCNP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to conserving, protecting, and educating about water and related resources for the people of the southwestern United States - across Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and California.
Yes. SWWCNP is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our IRS determination letter is available from the 501(c)3 link in the site footer.
It's a portfolio: roughly 41% groundwater, 36% Colorado River, 18% in-state rivers like the Salt and Verde, and 5% reclaimed water, per the Arizona Department of Water Resources. Our Water Information & Concerns page breaks down each source and the pressures on it.
Two decades of megadrought have driven Lakes Mead and Powell to historic lows. The Lower Basin entered its first-ever Tier 2a shortage in 2023, cutting 592,000 acre-feet from Arizona's allocation - and the rules governing the river are being renegotiated now that the 2007 guidelines have expired.
Start with the biggest wins: fix leaks promptly, run only full dishwasher and laundry loads, install low-flow showerheads and aerators, and water outdoors every 3-5 days in the cool hours instead of daily. Our water page lists 14 practical tips.
DRIP is our water-drop mascot, who teaches kids why water is the most important element of life and how every kid can be a water hero at home, at school, and outside. Water games and lesson guides for kids are on the site.
